Finally got my Sprint BB 9650 working on AT&T

The Blackberry Bold 9650 is a global phone for Sprint, but it can work on AT&T or another GSM carrier with a valid SIM and a BIS account.  I have been fighting with this guy for awhile trying to get it all to work right.  Everything works great when it's updated with Blackberry OS6, but I hate the fact the none of my favorite themes will work with OS6.  I love the 9650, it has the perfect keyboard for me next to the 9000, but the 9000 is a little long in the tooth.  So i thought I would see what I could cobble together, to get the 9650 working and still have OS5 on it.  Here is what I did:
  • Installed OS6 and got all my email and apps updated.
  • I then backed up that setup with Blackberry Desktop Manager.
  • The next step was to factory reset the 9650 and then revert back to OS5.
  • Once I got OS5 back on I selectively restored my email setting and service books from the OS6 backup.
  • All my email accounts and messages were restored and I could send and receive email from the BB.
  • I then made another backup of my OS5 just in case and started installing my apps.

Everything was working fine, but the email setup application is missing.  I can only guess this is because AT&T does not carry the 9650 and therefore there in no service book to send that BIS thinks in compatible.  I got the BIS webpage from AT&T setup to handle all the email management, it took a call to customer service, but it was quick and painless.

Long story short, I have fully working email, but no app on the Blackberry.  The BIS webpage is a lot faster then dealing with the BB app anyway, so if I have to make changes; I have to be in front of a web browser.  I can live with that minor sacrifice, but I'm still going to try and figure out a way to get the app on the 9650.
